An unnamed relative of Meghan Markle’s has reported to The Mirror that the duchess is struggling to find her footing in Los Angeles after she and Prince Harry split away from the British royal family and settled in her hometown this spring.
A huge part of the strain that weighs on the Duchess of Sussex, as Meghan is also known, is her ongoing lawsuit against Associated Newspapers for publishing an anguished letter she sent her estranged father. She wrote the letter the wake of what she felt was her father’s betrayal of her in which he blabbed about her to the press in the lead-up to her 2018 wedding to Harry.
New documents have emerged from the British High Court hearing the suit that indicate that Meghan felt that the British royal family left her “unprotected”from negative press while she was pregnant with her now-one-year-old son Archie.
Ensconced in Los Angeles — a foreign country within a foreign country — and burdened by the coronavirus restrictions, Harry is also struggling to adapt to his new life with Meghan Markle and Archie, The Mirror reports.
“The legal battle and the increased tension it’s created with the royals due to the information that’s coming out has to be putting a lot of strain on them both,” the nameless relative said of Meghan Markle’s life since settling in Los Angeles.
“Meghan’s been a lot more distant and introverted over the last few weeks – her family is worried. And Harry must be tormented by his fractured family ties.
“He was particularly down on William’s birthday on June 21.”
As the Daily Mail notes, since becoming a Los Angeleno once again, Meghan Markle has had to deal with the death of her close friendship with a Toronto-based stylist who worked with her on “Suits” and who has been embroiled in a career-ruining racism scandal.
Mulroney, who attended the duchess’ wedding, apparently isn’t the only close friend Meghan Markle has distanced herself from of late.
Reports indicate that Meghan Markle’s life in Los Angeles has been one of increasing estrangement from her confidantes.
Besieged by the tabloid press, the duchess has been left paranoid and unable to trust people for fear they will leak her private life to reporters.
An additional anxiety for Meghan Markle and Harry as they rent a $18 million home from Tyler Perry in Los Angeles is the pressing need to bring in an enormous amount of cash to support their lavish lifestyle, according to the Express.
Meghan and Harry first announced they were flying away from the royal nest in January. A chaotic period followed, during which Markle and the duke indicated they would settle in the British Commonwealth — for a time, they rented a luxurious pad on Vancouver Island — but ultimately reneged and settled in Los Angeles just before retiring their HRH titles on April 1.
The Queen also forced them to give up their fledgling global brand, Sussex Royal, by forbidding the couple to use the term “royal” for commercial profit.
Throughout her courtship with and subsequent marriage to Harry, Meghan has struggled to adapt to the British royal maxim of maintaining a stiff upper lip in the face of personal turmoil.
According to news.com.au, Meghan Markle’s legal battle against Associated Newspapers has greatly tested her during her life back in Los Angeles, especially after the new revelations from court documents this past week.
Some of the bombshell claims include that she felt “unprotected by the institution” during her pregnancy; that she had been “prohibited from defending herself” against press stories; and that Kensington Palace’s policy of “no comment” was put into play “without any discussion with or approval by” Meghan. Thus Meghan (via her legal team), barely two years since joining the royal family is now noisily and unrepentantly both complaining and explaining.
